Creative!
Today I read The Nutcracker to my 2nd grade class. As I turned to the page where Godfather Drosselmeier gives the children their gifts, I pointed to the picture of Clara holding her gift and asked:
Me: Looking at the shape of the gift (long and thin), I'm wondering what Clara could have gotten from Godfather Drosselmeier. What do you think she received, based on what you see in the picture?
Student 1: Umm...I think maybe it's a flute!
Me: Oh, that's a good guess, because a flute is long and skinny, just like the present.
Student 2: It's a nutcracker!
Me: Hmm...maybe...
Student 3: Oh, I know! It's a sub sandwich!
